I am trying to detect organic acids on my waters LC, which is equipped with a W410 refractor index detector. I am using a Aminex HPX-87H Column which is supposed to work to separate organic acids. I’m not sure if I’m missing something in my method settings but I am not detecting anything at all. If anyone has any insight that would be greatly appreciated

Both, HPX-87H column and RI detector should be suitable for separation and detection of organic acids. However, I don't know either, if something is missing in method as I don't know your method. If you could provide some more information like solvent composition, standard concentrations, maybe a chromatogram, that'd be helpful.

Hello, I am currently conducting my Bachelor on a organic synthesis. Here, I first form an acid chloride by the addition of thionyl chloride and Dimethylformamide (which together form the Vilsmeier-Haack reagent) to my starting product (4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid) at room temperature. After, I add Triethylamine (a proton scavenger) and a dimethylamine HCl salt, the latter of which should react with the acid chloride in a amidation reaction. However, upon addition of the DMA.HCl nothing seems to occur and a IR-spec analysis of the final product shows a molecule reminiscent of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This finding makes me think that there might be a polymerization reaction going on in which the acid chloride reacts with the hydroxy group of 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. This would also be able to explain as to why the DMA.HCl would not react in the mixture as all the acid chlorides would have polymerized before the amidation could occur.

Maybe you should protect the hydroxyl group before amidation? Otherwise, the starting material 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid will undergo esterification with itself.
Or you can use EDCI/DMAP/Et3N to amidate them instead?

Petroleum ether is a mixture of various alkanes. According to the IUPAC solubility data series, vol. 58, the solubility of dibenzo[a,h]anthracene in heptane would be 0,00034mol/l, but with your values you're trying to prepare 0,036mol/l unless I just severely miscalulated something, so you probably made a saturate solution with a much lower concentration than you hoped for.
The data is rather old, so there might be better options these days. The chemicalbook pake Iaroslav Kuziv hinted at indicated that actual ether might work better, but without quantitative data I don't want to give you hopes that you will reach your desired concentration.

The ever-increasing price of food products purchased by consumers in stores is another argument for buying products directly from a farmer producing real healthy, non-chemical-soaked crops produced according to the formula of sustainable organic farming, bypassing middlemen, commodity logistics centers, processing plants, stores and shopping malls, which sell crops or processed food products many times more expensive compared to the farmer's prices, and/or to set up a fruit and vegetable garden for your own needs and become independent of expensive middlemen and unnecessary costs. With such a solution, the farmer would earn more and the consumer would buy healthy crops much cheaper. Well, but the political pressure for these simple solutions to many problems is not there. Why? Because then the revenue from indirect taxes to the state budget, from VAT would be able to fall significantly, and after all, VAT is still the main source of revenue to the state budget in Poland. Well, such is the tax system we have. And could it be different? It could, but unfortunately it's easier to tax citizens and entities with lower and lowest incomes than those with higher incomes, who often also set up fictitious headquarters in tax havens in order to additionally pay even less taxes into the state's public finance system. Besides, this kind of solution would be good for the climate and the environment for many reasons. Maintaining home vegetable, fruit and flower gardens would save money for citizens, reduce environmental pollution from exhaust fumes emitted by cars transporting agricultural crops from the field to logistics centers, agri-food processing companies and then processed food products delivered to stores, shopping centers in cities, food discounters and hypermarkets. In addition, citizens who run vegetable and fruit gardens to obtain their own vegetable crops, their own vegetables and fruits usually do not use chemical pesticides, so the resulting food is realistically healthier than what is purchased in vegetable stores, discount stores and hypermarkets, where vegetables and fruits and the processed food products made from them go, which were grown in farm fields in a model of intensive, production-intensive, highly exploitative soil, climate and environment unsustainable agriculture formula. On the other hand, in the situation of running subsistence vegetable, fruit and flower gardens without the use of chemical pesticides, in which most or all of the farming and tending work is done by hand, with a high level of biodiversity, taking into account the coexistence in the garden of different species and varieties of crops, vegetables, fruits, flower meadows, shrubs and trees is this type of mini-agriculture, running the said gardens is close to the formula of pro-ecological, pro-climate, pro-environmental sustainable organic agriculture. Occurring in this kind of biodiverse gardens also flower meadows, flowering various species of grasses, perennials, meadow plants, as well as shrubs and trees is very friendly to pollinating insects, including bees, whose population has declined by several tens of percent over the past few decades of time. In addition, in such flower gardens, insect houses are increasingly being built and/or beehives are being erected to ensure the functioning of pollinating insects in the micro-biodiversity ecosystem thus created. On the other hand, in managing even small home vegetable and flower gardens, in their planning and organzation, the new information technology of advanced data processing, including generative artificial intelligence technology, can be of great help.

My question is about synthesis of nanostructure. the drug is doxycycline monohydrate. nanostructure consists of micelle TPGS and plunoric acid (f127).
at first stage, preparation of drug is needed and i used water and ethyl acetate(aqueous and organic solvent). the purpose of the stage is acid base extraction. I don't know if the solvents are good or not because doxycycline monohydrate very little dissolved in water and sonication used. stage 2 is synthesis of 40 mg micelle TPGS + 60mg f127 and i used ethanol (as a solvent). 2 mg drug added to solution. Rotary(30 min) and freeze dryer(2h) used and then 5mL PBS added. for 24h under the stirrer temperature was 37 centigrade. after that DLS was taken from the sample. but result is not good. two peaks showed and PDI is 0.4. z-average is about 24 nm. what is the problem in stages?

1. Evaporate the water completely in rotavapor before adding DCM. If the solubility is still low, Instead of using 100% DCM, use 70% DCM, and 30% MeOH. This will improve the solubility.
3. Evaporate the organic phase completely to dryness and then add a minimum of acetone for the GC analysis.

I need to determine the concentration of organic forms of nitrogen in a fertilizer and distinguish them from urea.
The fertilizer is composed by ammonium nitrate, urea, and these organic forms. I outsourced the analysis to a lab which measured the total nitrogen with Dumas method, and the ammonium and the nitrate with AAS. Finally, they subtracted the ammonium and nitrate concentrations from the total conc. and claimed that it is the organic fraction. As reliable as these methods can be, they do not distinguish between the urea and other organic forms of nitrogen. I asked the lab if they could measure the urea and they said they couldn't, which I found odd.
Can you suggest some cheap methods to measure urea in a liquid fertilizer?

The best way to determine soil bulk density is to actually measure it in the field. Bulk density is soil mass divided by volume on an oven dry basis. Organic matter is a small fraction of the total mass in mineral soils. When a soil sample is collected in the field and brought into the laboratory, the actual bulk density is destroyed resulting in "lab dirt".
Organic matter does influence soil aggregation which influences soil bulk density and other properties. But in collection of the sample without a measurement of in situ volume at the time of collection makes it extremely difficult to estimate the bulk density later with any accuracy.

I detect CO, H2, and CH4 using GC, by doing a reaction in a sealed vial and sampling the headspace with a gas-tight syringe with a valve. The GC needs a gas sampling port. You could put the soil in a flask with a septum, and do something similar. SEM/EDX is for materials/surfaces, not small molecules. IR can work if you use a gas cell and do background subtraction with a blank.
If they are concentrated enough and not that volatile, you could wash the solid with deuterated NMR solvent and take an NMR in a sealed NMR tube (like a J-young style), but it will be much less sensitive than GC or GC-MS

Organic amendment can be put into mineral terms as in NPK nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium content.
The benefits of organic input goes well beyond the NPK as the humic substances in organic manure work as plant growth regulators.
The growth regulation factor can work at very low concentrations of parts per million and is effective in stimulate early rooting in particuilar but it also includes stimulating plant resistance and adaptation to stress.
The organic amendment is also a rouce of beneficial biology which it does by stimulating probiotic microbes. The organic matter serve as both substrate and housing for these bacteria fungi etc.
Organic amendments and synthetic agricultural ones are not equilivalent.

I have some naturally occurring plant fiber both of primary & secondary plant dreived lignocellulosic fibers and now i want to dissolve them completely by any way like organic or inorganic solvents/chemicals for better observation & to conduct cutting edge/much more advance study. I am looking for an organic solvent compatible with polyurethane in order to avoid the solubilization of the polymer.
Solvent as DMF and THF destroy the PU, also I can't use water based solution and or methanol. Did someone find this kind of solution?
