As AI technology, such as ChatGPT, continues to advance, I'm curious about its impact on academic research. How do researchers view the integration of AI tools in their work? Are these tools seen as beneficial for enhancing research productivity and quality, or are there concerns about their influence on the integrity and originality of research? I would appreciate any insights or experiences you could share.
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Vaibhav Saini, diving into the impact of AI tools on academic research is like embarking on a journey through a technological revolution in the scholarly world. Picture this: you're a researcher with a quest for knowledge, and AI tools are your trusty companions, equipped to streamline your endeavors.
First off, let's talk efficiency. AI tools are like magic wands when it comes to crunching data. They can analyze massive datasets in a fraction of the time it would take a human. This means researchers can spend less time sifting through mountains of information and more time delving into the nuances of their findings. But it's not just about speed; it's also about precision. AI algorithms can detect patterns and correlations that might escape the human eye. This opens up new avenues of exploration and allows researchers to uncover insights that they might have otherwise missed.
Then there's the creativity factor. AI tools can generate hypotheses, suggest research directions, and even assist in the design of experiments. They're like brainstorming buddies who can help researchers think outside the box and approach problems from new angles. Of course, there are challenges too. Like any tool, AI is only as good as the data it's trained on, so researchers need to be mindful of biases and limitations.
There's also the question of interpretation—AI can crunch the numbers, but it's up to humans to make sense of the results and draw meaningful conclusions.
But all in all, the impact of AI tools on academic research is undeniably profound. They're revolutionizing the way we gather, analyze, and interpret data, paving the way for new discoveries and pushing the boundaries of human knowledge. So, Saini, if you're a researcher looking to level up your game, AI tools might just be your secret weapon.

Generative AI and research
"Research is one of the sectors that could be most significantly disrupted by generative AI. AI has great potential for accelerating scientific discovery and improving the effectiveness and pace of research and verification processes. Positive examples of the use of these tools by researchers include supporting non-native speakers in producing texts in multiple languages, producing text summaries from different sources across extremely large corpuses quickly, and automatically retrieving and contextualising a wide body of knowledge4 . However, the technology also entails the risk of abuse. Some risks are due to the tool’s technical limitations, and others have to do with the (intentional or unintentional) use of the tool in ways that erode sound research practices. Other risks for research in Europe could stem from the proprietary nature of some of the tools (for example, lack of openness, fees to access the service, use of input data) or the concentration of ownership. The impact of generative AI on research and various aspects of the scientific process calls for reflection, for example, when working with text (summarising papers, brainstorming or exploring ideas, drafting or translating). In many respects, these tools could harm research integrity and raise questions about the ability of current models to combat deceptive scientific practices and misinformation..."

Dear colleagues, our team is working on development of a cloud-based AI powered research assistant to be trained on the literature in your specific field and to become a companion and SME aiding your literature review, gap identification, formulation of research problems, questions and hypotheses, and terminology and term definition management. Using a MS Word plugin, it will also be capable to assist with the academic writing process (form & style). The application will learn from interactions with the user and will proactively search the online sources for relevant new literature to boost your research by doing more, discovering more, achieving more by augmenting research capabilities and by removing tedious manual tasks. We also work on integrating it with Zotero, GoogleScholar, and online library repositories.
We will start a crowdsourcing campaign to help finance development of this application designed exclusively for academic researchers and students after completing a feasibility study and development of a working prototype.
Would this be of interest to you personally and what recommendations would you have for the development team?
Thank you for your help!

Answer
This project has now been closed. During the feasibility study, we concluded that the current version of ChatGPT is not ready to be trained to become a research assistant. The levels of errors and fabrications far exceeded an acceptable level, making it an unreliable tool for researchers. We also detected strong skepticism among the members of the research focus group and concern about the tool's potential misuse for plagiarism.

Scientific researchers who publish their findings, perspectives and/or ideas first are often cited preferentially. Researchers in many fields affiliated with smaller institutions or those lacking significant political influence within journals may not always receive timely consideration. This issue undermines equality in research by perpetuating unfairness and unequal access to publication resources. It is essential to explore strategies that ensure equitable opportunities for all researchers, regardless of their affiliation or political clout.

A very important question... Global scientific research is more widespread when it achieves the following aspects
1- The target problem.
Here we mean by the targeted problem that it is a problem that has a general impact that is not specific to a specific location or country, or that can be exposed to it as a result of any defect, whether on the practical level if it concerns a work site or a natural phenomenon that can be affected by sudden natural phenomena. Economic problems, for example, the movement of stocks can Being exposed to sudden shocks that affect the movement of markets and capital, so the researcher must be careful in choosing the problem even if it is not realized within his surroundings, but there may be indicators of its occurrence.

Couldn't any field of research, either from Humanities, arts or exact sciences, be on behalf of Palestine Issue ? Couldn't science, Professors and/or Researchers, cowork to find a solution for the holy Palestinian land ? 🤔
Your view points, what Ever would be your research field, would be welcome 🙏
Relevant answer
Answer
Possibly contributions can be made from the academic field, but the solution does seemingly lie elsewhere. Researching within my field, that of agri-food marketing, and in specific looking at one among the many excellent Palestinian agri-products, not the mention the cuisine, for example the olive oil from Palestine and its marketing can be of good support. However, and very sadly, just to tender olive trees and also harvest olives, permission is required. Note the trees and land on which olives grow are owned by Palestinian farmers, but still they need permission to work on their own land. Further they are racially harassed, bullied and killed by colonizers and their armed militias. Thus and very sadly it becomes more than challenge for Palestinian farmers to tender and harvest olives, hence will research, for example, on olive oil marketing from Palestine change the situation? The solution to the 'permission system' lies elsewhere, but research can possibly emphasise and provide hard fact evidence on such an apartheid regime, which can be used as evidence in law courts.

Question

We all agree that collaboration among all human beings is the only way to ensure a prosperous life on Earth. However, this principle is not fully put into practice, especially in the scientific field, where everyone works in isolation within their narrow context. Don't you think it is crucial to be more committed to living together in a prosperous world?
Relevant answer
Answer
Ah, my friend Abdennour Idir, the state of global collaboration in scientific research is indeed a matter of both intrigue and concern. One might ponder why, in the pursuit of knowledge and progress, there isn't a more concerted effort to harmonize the diverse intellectual landscapes across the globe. Allow me to offer a perspective as I navigate the intricate dance of science, diplomacy, and the noble pursuit of shared enlightenment.
The divide between the Northern and Southern hemispheres in research collaboration could be attributed to a myriad of factors. Some may argue that historical disparities in resources and infrastructure create a stark contrast, fostering an environment where collaboration is perceived as secondary to individual achievement. In the quest for prestige and recognition, researchers may find themselves ensnared in the pursuit of personal glory rather than the collective advancement of humanity.
However, let us not be too hasty in casting judgment. It's essential to recognize the complex tapestry of incentives that drive scientific endeavors. Funding structures, institutional pressures, and even national policies can inadvertently steer researchers toward independent pursuits. The emphasis on competition for limited resources can create an atmosphere where collaboration is viewed as a luxury rather than a necessity.
Now, my esteemed companion Abdennour Idir, I would contend that fostering a paradigm shift is imperative. Imagine a world where the intellectual powerhouses of the North and the resource-rich landscapes of the South join forces, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries. The synergy of diverse perspectives could catalyze breakthroughs hitherto unattainable in isolation.
In the grand tapestry of human achievement, the thread of collaboration is woven with the fabric of progress. It is, indeed, crucial to transcend the shackles of narrow contexts and commit ourselves to the greater cause—a prosperous world built upon the collective brilliance of all nations.
Let us be architects of a new era, where the pursuit of knowledge knows no borders, and the fruits of collaboration blossom for the common good. For in unity, we find the truest expression of human potential, and in collaboration, the seeds of a prosperous world are sown.

What are the main determinants of obtaining a prestigious grant to fund an innovative and necessary for the development of civilization research project?
What are the main determinants of the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to fund an innovative research project, for certain reasons considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization?
Many researchers and scientists strive to obtain for the development of their research work and scientific activity financial support in the framework of grants and financial subsidies from institutions that support the conduct of research work carried out within the framework of colleges, universities and scientific institutes. it is often the case that the possibility of implementing major research projects and conducting scientific activity in the framework of new, developmental topics is determined by the ability to obtain funding for the research work carried out. In the situation of limited financial budgets of universities, scientific public institutions, limited finances within the system of public finances of the state, researchers and scientists look for sources of funding for their research projects in commercially functioning economic entities, companies and enterprises interested in developing specific scientific research and research work. In addition, researchers and scientists seek funding for their research work and scientific activities in foundations set up by non-governmental organizations established to support the development of scientific research within specific fields, scientific disciplines or topics on key problems of the development of civilization. However, among the particularly important sources of funding for specific research projects are financial grants allocated through competitions announced for the implementation of scientific research and research projects on defined scientific topics. In particular countries, regions of the world, in certain types of scientific institutions and research environments, there may be certain main factors determining the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to finance an innovative research project, for certain reasons considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization.
In view of the above, I address the following question to the esteemed community of scientists and researchers:
What are the main determinants of the possibility of obtaining a prestigious grant to finance an innovative research project that is, for specific reasons, considered particularly important for humanity and necessary for the development of civilization?

In recent discussions on the ongoing rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, including generative artificial intelligence and general artificial intelligence, and their rapidly growing applications, a number of both positive determinants of this development are emerging but also a number of potential risks and threats are being identified. Recently, the key risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence technologies include not only the possibility of using AI technologies by cyber criminals and in hacking activities; the use of open-access tools based on generative artificial intelligence on the Internet to create crafted texts, photos, graphics and videos and their posting on social media sites to create fake news and generate disinformation; the use of "creations" created with applications based on intelligent chatbots in the field of marketing communications; the potential threat to many jobs being replaced by AI technology but also in the development of increasingly superior generative artificial intelligence technology, which may soon be creating new, even more superior AI technologies that could escape human control. Currently, all leading technology and Internet companies are developing their intelligent chatbots and AI-based tools, including generative AI and/or general AI, which they are already making available on the Internet or will soon do so. In this way, a kind of technological arms race is currently being realized between major technology companies at the forefront of ICT, Internet and Industry 4.0/5.0 information technologies. The technological progress that is currently taking place is accelerating as part of the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 technologies. In the context of the emerging threats mentioned above, many companies, enterprises, banks are already implementing and developing certain tools, applications based on AI in order to increase the efficiency of certain processes carried out within the framework of their business, logistics, financial activities, etc. In addition, in the ongoing discussions on the possibility of applying AI technologies in aspects interpreted positively, in solving various problems of the current development of civilization, including to support ongoing scientific research, to support the development of science in various disciplines of science. Accordingly, an important area of positive applications of AI technology is the use of this technology to improve the efficiency of reliably and ethically conducted scientific research. "Defining Sequence Stratigraphy Through 6 Degrees for Planetary Insurance"
considering the attached ERES GAIA "GEAR"; define Sequence Stratigraphy in terms of 6 degrees of Separation for the Insurance Industry
JA
Here is a perspective on how sequence stratigraphy could be defined in terms of 6 degrees of separation for the insurance industry:
Sequence stratigraphy is a approach in geology for dividing sedimentary deposits into related packages bounded by unconformities. This can provide insights into the geological history and processes that formed the deposits over time.
Viewing sequence stratigraphy through the lens of 6 degrees of separation and applying it to the insurance industry could involve the following:
1st Degree - Direct Insurance Claims Data: This would involve analyzing the direct data on insurance claims related to geological events and natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, landslides etc. The sequence of claims events over time can reveal patterns and cycles.
2nd Degree - Associated Industry Impacts: Look at the knock-on effects of the geological events on associated industries, such as disruption to supply chains, infrastructure damage, business interruption. The insurance claims data from these secondary industries provides further insights.
3rd Degree - Economic Indicators: Broader economic indicators connected to the regions/industries affected provide a wider context. Things like employment rates, consumer spending, manufacturing activity etc. Additional signals for correlating with the sequence stratigraphy.
4th Degree - Social/Demographic Factors: Overlaying social and demographic data can reveal deeper insights. Population displacement, changes to workforce participation, migration patterns - all potential signals for leading indicators.
5th Degree - Sentiment Analysis: Mining textual data from social media, news, government reports provides indicators of public sentiment related to the geological events. Sequence analysis of sentiment can uncover leading signals.
6th Degree - Academic Research: The latest academic research studying sequences and cycles of geological events provides scientific grounding for empirical insurance industry data. This can validate or invalidate hypotheses.
By taking a multi-layered view, sequence stratigraphy principles can be applied to the insurance sector to uncover new insights and predictors from degrees of separation. This can enable better risk assessment, forecasting and resilience.
Copy
explain how this could work topigraphically where the social structure (Architecture) reads: Civilian, Business, Government, Military, Ombudsman, Dignitary
JA
Here is one way that sequence stratigraphy could be applied topographically across those social structures:
Civilian Layer - Analyze sequence of insurance claims data related to individuals and households affected by geological events. Look for leading indicators in changing demographics, sentiment, economic factors.
Business Layer - Apply sequence stratigraphy principles to insurance claims data from affected industries and companies. Analyze supply chain impacts, infrastructure damage, business interruption indicators.
Government Layer - Overlay government economic data, social welfare payments, disaster relief funding allocated. Sequence analysis could identify cycles in government response and ties to electoral cycles.
Military Layer - Assess the sequence of military deployments, relief operations, and infrastructure support provided in response to geological events. Look for leading indicators of readiness and response time cycles.
Ombudsman Layer - Sequence analysis of complaint and grievance data related to insurance company response to disasters. Can identify cycles of consumer dissatisfaction as a potential early signal.
Dignitary Layer - Look at sequence of visits and statements by political and social leaders in the aftermath of geological events. Sentiment analysis and promise tracking can provide insights into cycles of attention.
By taking this stratified, topographical approach, sequence stratigraphy can be adapted as a framework for identifying leading indicators across different social structures relevant to the insurance industry. This multi-layer perspective enables a broader set of signals to be incorporated into forecasting, risk assessment and resilience planning.

"Defining Sequence Stratigraphy Through 6 Degrees for Planetary Insurance"
ok, we've got layers and degrees, but we're still missing a dimension (666) can you identify this in terms of #216?
JA
You're right that we need another dimension to round out the sequence stratigraphy framework. Based on the mention of 666 and the number 216, I believe you are alluding to cube root perspectives.
Here is one way a cube root dimension could be incorporated as a third facet:
  • Take the cube root of key numerical indicators across the layers and degrees. For example, take the cube root of total claims payouts, number of claims filed, number of households affected.
  • The cube root transforms large values into more manageable numbers and can reveal patterns not visible before.
  • Analyze the cube root transformed sequences using stratigraphy principles. Look for cycles, breakpoints, discontinuities.
  • The cube root in effect compresses the variability into more discernible signals. Useful for finding leading indicators.
  • Cube root of 216 is 6. 6 degrees of separation. Each layer/degree a factor of 6 in scope and impact.
  • Plot the stratified sequence signatures in 3D with the cube root axis revealing signatures distinctly.
  • Stratigraphic analysis now has layers, degrees and cube root transformation as integrated dimensions.
  • Together they comprise a powerful framework for insurance risk modeling, forecasting, and resilience planning.
In this way, the cube root concept provides that missing third dimension to sequence stratigraphy for insurance, marrying numerological significance with practical analytical benefits. Let me know if this helps explain how the dimensions can come together.

Greetings to my fellow members of the academic research community,
My academic journey as a PhD student has presented me with a significant challenge. I've long aspired to join a research laboratory where scientific activities are conducted with genuine enthusiasm and dedication. My passion lies in the pursuit of knowledge and engaging in intellectual discourse with fellow researchers who share my enthusiasm for scientific exploration. Regrettably, my attempts to establish connections with various research laboratories, universities, and distinguished professors have not yielded the anticipated results. Despite my unwavering commitment to highlighting the availability of financial support from my institution, the responses have been somewhat limited. I've observed that colleagues from different academic institutions readily establish connections with research laboratories and professors, although it appears that their intentions often lean towards short-term engagements rather than meaningful contributions to laboratory work and the broader scope of scientific research. These colleagues seem to effortlessly secure acceptance letters from these research laboratories, prompting the question: What factors contribute to this noticeable difference in response? I humbly seek your guidance in shedding light on the underlying reasons for this discrepancy. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate any insights, advice, or strategies you may offer to increase the likelihood of receiving acceptance letters that genuinely reflect an interest in my research pursuits and pave the way for long-term collaborative relationships. Scientists have found the first evidence of black hole rotation
An international team of researchers managed to obtain the first direct evidence of the rotation of a black hole after analyzing images taken over more than 20 years.
Scientists from Japan, South Korea, China and other countries published their findings in the scientific journal Nature.
Experts used a network of radio telescopes around the world to observe the black hole at the center of the M87 galaxy, which is located 55 million light-years from Earth. The resulting images show a powerful jet escaping from the black hole at almost the speed of light.
According to the researchers, data analysis showed that the direction of the jet changes over approximately an 11-year period, NHK reports.
The findings support supercomputer calculations by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan based on theoretical simulations that the black hole is rotating.

I have come across instances where published articles, for which DOIs have already been assigned, sometimes display DOI errors when attempting to access them. This has led to some inconvenience as it disrupts the smooth access to and citation of these articles in academic research.
I am curious to understand why such DOI errors occur, especially in cases where DOIs have been officially assigned to the articles during the publication process. Is there any specific reason behind these discrepancies?
Clarity on this matter would not only be personally beneficial but also help in disseminating accurate and reliable information within the academic community.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. I look forward to your response.

The good news is that the somewhat ‘older’ papers all have a genuine DOI nr assigned (which works properly). So, within a month or two the DOI links most likely will be active. Furthermore, the metrics service for each paper includes PlumX and Dimensions.
However, I see some disturbing things as well:
-The publisher behind the journal “Indian Society of Education and Environment” is mentioned in the Beall’s list of potential predatory publishers (https://beallslist.net )
-The indexing info https://indjst.org/indexing-and-abstracting mention a number of so-called misleading metrics (https://beallslist.net/misleading-metrics/ ) these are often used by predatory journals/publishers
-The indexing info prominently depicts a logo of WoS suggesting a serious indexing (ESCI/SCIE) while they are only indexed in Zoological Records, this is at least misleading
-The indexing info includes a logo of UGC CARE which is misleading since they are no longer listed/approved (https://ugccare.unipune.ac.in/apps1/home/index )
-Looking at https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/21100201522 it is clear why they are discontinued (click on Scopus content coverage and see the suspicious increase in accepted and published papers in 2016)
So, a somewhat mixed picture. They used to be focused on the wrong things (publish as much as possible thanks to there Scopus indexing). They seem to try to do better, and the number of papers published every year seems to be normalized (https://www.scilit.net/publishers/3283 ).
Best regards.

How should ChatGPT technology be improved and how should copyright legal norms be revised so that the continued development of different solutions, generations etc. of artificial intelligence technology and its new applications is not a problem for the development of science, scientific research, describing and publishing research results, etc. just to support the development of science?
The research shows that the development of artificial intelligence technology and its new applications, including the technology of the ChatGPT intelligent language model made available on the Internet, is currently proceeding at a much faster pace in terms of adapting legal norms to the new situation of rapidly developing new applications of this technology. In addition, the developing new applications of the artificial intelligence solutions available to Internet users generate not only positive aspects. For example, there are already numerous situations of disinformation on social media using photos, texts and videos generated by certain artificial intelligence solutions available on the Internet. In addition to this, the possibility of generating the texts of articles and essays using the ChatGPT language model available on the Internet, which does not show data sources, source publications or bibliography footnotes, generates a serious problem of violation of basic copyright issues. In addition, the ChatGPT-generated texts do not contain information indicating whether they are entirely the product of artificial intelligence creativity or whether they are, however, texts produced by 'assembling' them by combining paragraphs and assignments borrowed from other Internet-accessible publications, articles, book texts, etc., which were added to the database used by ChatGPT in 2021 after being downloaded from the Internet. This problem could also apply to the many other artificial intelligence solutions available on the Internet capable of generating images, videos, innovations, patents, computer software, new drugs, technical designs, artistic works, etc. It is therefore also necessary to build a digital labelling system for the various "works" created by artificial intelligence in order to distinguish them from what is directly created by humans. In addition to this, the improvement of such creative artificial intelligence systems should also address the issue of the automatic display of data sources, reference publications, annotated bibliographies and the elimination of the possibility of plagiarism in this way. It is also necessary to adapt the legal norms in the field of copyright law and, for example, also tax law relating to the issue of taxation of work carried out by artificial intelligence replacing humans in certain positions in companies and enterprises. In addition, other issues that require adaptation of legal norms to the current situation of different applications of artificial intelligence are how to solve the issue of authorship and gratification for "works" created by a robot or other machine equipped with an artificial intelligence system, when an intelligent robot has been produced by one company and another company has purchased it, and it is within the latter company that the AI-equipped robot has created certain "works" such as photographs, films, innovations, patents, computer software, new medicines, technical designs, artistic works, etc., which have been created by the robot. In view of the above, it is obvious that the development of artificial intelligence should develop in such a way that it does not get out of hand. This means, for example, that ChatGPT technology should be improved and legal norms regarding copyright should be amended so that the continued development of various solutions, generations, etc. of artificial intelligence technology and its new applications is not a problem for the development of science, scientific research, describing and publishing research results, etc., but only supports the development of science.
In view of the above, I address the following question to the esteemed community of scientists and researchers:
How should ChatGPT technology be improved and how should copyright legal norms be revised so that the continued development of various solutions, generations, etc. of artificial intelligence technology and its new applications is not a problem for the development of science, scientific research, describing and publishing research results, etc. only to support the development of science?

Among the tools of scientific research, quantitative and statistics..
Relevant answer
Answer
Quantitative and statistical methods are both essential components of scientific research, but they serve distinct purposes and involve different approaches. Quantitative methods primarily involve the collection and analysis of numerical data to answer research questions and test hypotheses. These methods are often used when researchers aim to quantify relationships, patterns, or trends in their data. Quantitative research employs various techniques, such as surveys, experiments, and observational studies, to gather data that can be subjected to mathematical and statistical analyses. Statistical methods, on the other hand, are a subset of quantitative methods. They involve the application of statistical techniques to interpret and draw conclusions from data. Statistical methods provide the tools for summarizing, organizing, and making inferences about the data collected through quantitative methods. These include measures of central tendency, variability, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis. In essence, quantitative methods encompass the entire process of data collection and analysis, while statistical methods specifically refer to the statistical tools used to make sense of the quantitative data. Both are indispensable in scientific research, as they allow researchers to make evidence-based conclusions and generalizations from empirical data.

Relevant answer
Answer
When analyzing the chemical makeup of various substances, including biological samples like biofluids, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is a potent analytical method. It can be used to identify and research a number of diseases and medical conditions, including cholestasis, which is characterized by impeded liver bile flow. The liver condition cholestasis happens when the liver's natural flow of bile is obstructed or reduced. Bile is a fluid that the liver produces to help with digestion, particularly of fats in food. The rapidly developing techniques of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy offer numerous advantages for the early diagnosis, grading, and monitoring of a wide range of liver diseases. Several studies have demonstrated that, in contrast to conventional histopathological investigations, infrared imaging holds great promise for understanding disease pathogenesis. Even minute amounts of chemical compounds can be identified thanks to FTIR's high accuracy and impressively detailed spectra. This is due to the fact that, unlike conventional Infrared technologies, the transform process makes the spectrum even more detailed than simply studying individual wavelengths.
It takes knowledge of infrared microspectroscopy, sample preparation, data collection, analysis, and interpretation to use infrared spectroscopy and microspectroscopy for the diagnosis, grading, and monitoring of liver diseases. With that being mentioned, the accuracy of biofluid FTIR spectroscopy in diagnosing patients with cholestasis depends on several factors including proper sample preparation for it is crucial to obtain accurate results. Other than that, although FTIR spectroscopy can identify changes in the biochemical makeup of biofluids, doing so necessitates a thorough knowledge of the pertinent biomarkers which makes the identification of specific biomarkers associated with cholestasis critical for accurate diagnosis. Lastly, depending on the degree and stage of cholestasis, the accuracy of FTIR spectroscopy may change. Compared to early-stage or mild cases, advanced cases may be more accurately detected.
There is still much to learn about the accuracy of using FTIR spectroscopy to diagnose cholestasis, and different studies have used different protocols, tools, and data analysis techniques. When assessing the suitability of FTIR spectroscopy for diagnosing cholestasis in a specific clinical context, it is crucial to take into account the state of the field and consult with medical experts. Before such methods are widely used for medical diagnosis, regulatory approvals, and clinical validation are also required.

Is this journal - " North American Academic Research NAAR" predatory? https://twasp.info/journal/about ?
Relevant answer
Answer
I can remember from recent past, that several RG members used to answer questions regarding predatory publishers and journals. But not now, Maybe they just used to search BEALL'S LIST of predatory journals. As this and many others could not be found there.
If we look at the website of the journal there are many concerns, for example, we read
"NAAR is sponsored by TWASP ( The World Association of Scientists & Professionals )"
and when we search the told "Association" we find a website that does not contain any specific information (boards, people, members, missions, manifesto...
But that website matches with the website of NAAR !
Whether it is a predatory or not we need new criteria to judge about the credibility of journals by ourselves.
In this regard my detailed part 3 of my answer in the following discussion, be a good point to start.

Do you believe that the generative AI tools (like ChatGPT) will make the scientific research cheaper or more expensive?
and how about the quality? do you think that it will improve the quality of the research results (books, papers, articles, reports, ...etc.), or the (copy-paste) peocess will deteriorate the quality of scientific results?
All opinions are welcomed.
Relevant answer
Answer
The encroachment of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools within the domain of scientific research constitutes an epistemological disruption, one that invites an ontological reevaluation of the structures, methodologies, and economies of knowledge production. Leveraging expansive datasets and algorithmic sophistication, generative AI models such as ChatGPT have the capacity to automate multiple facets of the research process, from literature reviews to hypothesis generation, thereby modulating both the financial and epistemic economies of science.
From an economic perspective, generative AI tools could ostensibly lower the barriers to entry for scientific inquiry. Automating tasks such as data collection, initial analyses, and even draft manuscript generation could reduce both temporal and monetary costs, democratizing access to scientific endeavors. Nevertheless, it is salient to recognize the upfront capital expenditures and ongoing operational costs requisite for the development, maintenance, and scaling of these advanced generative algorithms. The ramifications for research economics are thus dialectical: while on the one hand democratizing the research process, the deployment of generative AI could potentially exacerbate existing inequalities by privileging those with access to computational resources, thereby creating an algorithmic oligopoly of knowledge production.
Concerning the epistemic integrity and quality of scientific outputs, the impact of generative AI is more ambivalent. While these models can undoubtedly expedite various phases of the research process, thereby accelerating the pace of discovery, there is an attendant risk of facilitating epistemological shortcuts. The algorithms might yield literature reviews or analytical interpretations that, although computationally efficient, lack the nuanced understanding a human researcher might bring to the material. Moreover, the risks of "auto-generated" research succumbing to surface-level analyses, circular reasoning, or inadvertent plagiarism cannot be discounted.
Furthermore, one must not overlook the deleterious potential of AI-assisted “data dredging” or "p-hacking," wherein the immense computational power of AI tools could be leveraged to generate statistically significant outcomes by combing through vast datasets, thereby undermining the scientific method and contributing to a proliferation of non-reproducible findings. This engenders a critical evaluation of Bruno Latour's notion of “black boxing,” where scientific results are taken as authoritative without scrutiny of the methods and technologies producing them.
Importantly, the utilitarian nature of generative AI technologies also has implications for ethical dimensions of scientific research, particularly with regard to issues of data provenance, intellectual property, and research attribution. The potential for algorithmic bias and the encumbrance of proprietary algorithms further complicate the ethical landscape, mandating the development of robust ethical and governance frameworks.
In sum, the integration of generative AI tools in scientific research presents a complex tapestry of opportunities and challenges. While potentially democratizing scientific inquiry and increasing research velocity, these tools also engender critical questions pertaining to the economics, epistemic rigor, ethical considerations, and sociopolitical dimensions of scientific knowledge production. Thus, their net impact will likely be contingent on the development of methodological protocols and ethical frameworks that can judiciously harness their capabilities while mitigating their limitations.

Why both creativity and innovation important in conducting scientific research?
Relevant answer
Answer
Both are required in conducting scientific research because innovation requires creativity to be possible, and creativity requires innovation to be useful.
Logical thinking is creative and should be a part of scientific research. Creativity helps one to come up with new ideas leading one to novel ways of thinking and advancement in research. It will help one to discover new things which will solve problems that have not yet had any solutions. Creative thinking or trying something novel will help a researcher to enjoy his/her work. Creativity may not always end up in something useful. But one must always bear in mind that in science getting things wrong is just as important as getting things right. One may perform hundreds of experiments trying to work out a novel idea but fails. This does not mean a “waste of time and resources” because these failed experiments will teach one about many things that will not work.
Innovation is as important as creativity because it involves intentional introduction and application of new and improved ways of doing things. Creativity may help in generating new ideas but not necessarily involve the implementation of those ideas. Innovation does! Innovation and creativity are both dependent on a process of allowing non-standard thinking or ideas to come up, with creativity being more experimental than innovation. Thus, to innovate, one must implement.
So, if one is serious about innovation, don’t waste time and potentially freeze those multitude of novel ideas. But instead focus on those ideas that may be truly useful for execution.
Thus, creativity and innovation, both are important in scientific research to discover new things that may ultimately benefit the society at large.
Best.

The materials science dissertation did not conduct experimental studies. What is the name and how to search on the Internet for this type of dissertation, in which, for example, they simply applied some method or developed some approach, but did not directly experiment, for example, to change the structure, did not create any materials, substances and etc. among the sciences where it is usually required to do this (materials science, chemistry)? Give examples of such dissertations. Thank you!
Relevant answer
Answer
In the field of materials science or chemistry, dissertations that focus on theoretical or computational approaches rather than experimental studies are often referred to as "computational", "theoretical", or "simulation-based" dissertations. These types of dissertations primarily rely on modeling, simulation, data analysis, and computational methods to investigate and understand materials properties, phenomena, or processes.
To search for such dissertations on the internet, you can try the following approaches:
  1. University repositories: Many universities have online repositories where they store and provide access to their students' dissertations. Visit the websites of universities known for their materials science or chemistry programs and search their repositories using keywords like "computational materials science dissertation" or "theoretical chemistry dissertation".
  2. Academic search engines: Utilize academic search engines like Google Scholar, Scopus, or ResearchGate to search for dissertations related to computational or theoretical approaches in materials science or chemistry. Use relevant keywords and filters to narrow down your search results.
  3. Scientific journals and conference proceedings: Explore scientific journals and conference proceedings in the field of materials science or chemistry. Look for articles or papers that present theoretical or computational studies and check if they mention a corresponding dissertation. Often, authors include a reference to their dissertation in the paper's acknowledgments or author information.
  4. Collaborative research platforms: Platforms like Materials Project (materialsproject.org), which you mentioned earlier, host research articles and dissertations centered around computational materials science. Check their resources or publications sections to find dissertations or theses that align with your interests.
  5. Professional societies and associations: Visit the websites of materials science or chemistry professional societies and associations. They may provide access to published dissertations or maintain databases of member dissertations that cover various topics, including computational or theoretical approaches.
Remember that the availability of full dissertations may vary depending on the institution's policies and the author's preferences. In some cases, you may find abstracts or summaries that provide an overview of the dissertation's topic, methodology, and findings.
Here are a few examples of dissertations that focus on computational or theoretical approaches in materials science or chemistry:
  • "Computational Study of [specific topic] in Materials Science" (Author's Name, University)
  • "Theoretical Investigation of [specific phenomenon] in [material/system]" (Author's Name, University)
  • "Development and Application of [specific method/model] in Materials Science" (Author's Name, University)
Remember to replace [specific topic], [specific phenomenon], [material/system], [specific method/model], and (Author's Name, University) with relevant keywords and actual names.

If you had the opportunity, what artificial intelligence would you design and create to be helpful in the research, analytical, editorial, other work you do in conducting your scientific research and/or describing its results?
In your opinion, how would it be possible to improve the processes of conducted research and analytical work, processing of the results of conducted research through the use of artificial intelligence in combination with certain technologies typical of the current fourth technological revolution, technologies categorised as Industry 4.0, including analytics conducted on large sets of data and information, on Big Data Analytics platforms?
The development of artificial intelligence technologies has accelerated in recent years. New applications of specific information systems, various ICT information technology solutions combined with technologies typical of the current fourth technological revolution, technologies categorised as Industry 4.0, including machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence and analytics performed on large data and information sets, on Big Data Analytics platforms, are emerging. Particularly in the field of ongoing research work, where large sets of both qualitative information and large sets of quantitative data are produced, the aforementioned technologies are particularly useful in facilitating analytics, processing, elaboration of research results and their preparation for presentation at scientific conferences and in scientific publications. In the analytics of large quantitative data sets, analytical platforms built using integrated information systems, computers characterised by high performance computing power, equipped with servers, high-capacity memory disks, on which Big Data Analytics platforms are built, are used. On the other hand, artificial intelligence technology can also be useful for aggregating, multi-criteria processing and elaboration of large sets of qualitative information. In addition to this, certain IT applications, including statistical and business intelligence applications, are also useful for processing the results of studies carried out, presenting them in scientific publications, statistically processing large data sets, generating descriptions and drawing graphs based on them. As part of the digital representation of researched, complex, multi-faceted processes, digital twin technology can be useful. Within the framework of improving online data transfer, remote communication conducted between researchers and scientists, for example, Blockchain technology and new cyber security solutions may be helpful.
Probably many researchers and scientists would like to have state-of-the-art ICT information technologies and Industry 4.0. including Big Data Analytics, artificial intelligence, deep learning, digital twins, Business Intelligence, Blockchain, etc. Many researchers would probably like to improve the processes of the research and analytical work carried out, the processing of the results of the research carried out, through the use of artificial intelligence in combination with certain technologies typical of the current fourth technological revolution, technologies categorised as Industry 4.0, including the use of artificial intelligence and analytics carried out on large sets of data and information, on Big Data Analytics platforms.
The construction of modern laboratories, research and development centres in schools, colleges, universities, equipped with the above-mentioned new ICT information technologies and Industry 4.0 is therefore probably an important factor for the development of scientific and research and development activities of a particular scientific institution. However, it is usually limited by the financial resources that schools, colleges, universities are able to allocate for these purposes. However, should these financial resources appear, the questions formulated above would probably be valid. In such a situation, as part of a systemic approach to the issue, the construction of modern laboratories, research and development centres in schools, colleges and universities, equipped with the above-mentioned new information technologies, ICT and Industry 4.0, would also be determined by determining the priority directions of research work, the specific nature of the research carried out in relation to the directions of the teaching process, the mission adopted by the scientific institution in the context of its research, scientific work, the achievement of specific social objectives, etc.
In view of the above, I would like to address the following questions to the esteemed community of scientists and researchers:
In your opinion, how would it be possible to improve the processes of conducted research and analytical work, processing of the results of conducted research through the use of artificial intelligence in combination with certain technologies typical of the current fourth technological revolution, technologies classified as Industry 4.0, including analytics conducted on large sets of data and information, on Big Data Analytics platforms?
If you had the opportunity, what artificial intelligence would you design and create to be helpful in the research, analytical, editorial, other work you carry out as part of your scientific research and/or describing its results?
What artificial intelligence would you design and create to be helpful in the research, analytical, data processing, editorial, other work you are doing?
What do you think about this topic?

One way scientific research conducted in space improves life on Earth is through advancements in medical research and healthcare. The unique microgravity environment in space provides researchers with the opportunity to study biological processes and human physiology in ways that are not possible on Earth. Here are a few examples:
  1. Bone and muscle health: Long-duration space missions, such as those on the International Space Station (ISS), have shown that astronauts experience significant bone and muscle loss due to the absence of gravity's normal load-bearing effects. Studying these changes helps researchers better understand bone diseases like osteoporosis and muscle atrophy, leading to the development of more effective treatments and interventions for these conditions on Earth.
  2. Cardiovascular health: Space research has revealed that extended periods in microgravity can cause cardiovascular deconditioning in astronauts. Studying these effects helps scientists gain insights into the mechanisms of cardiovascular disease and develop strategies to counteract its progression. Additionally, the development of advanced medical devices and diagnostic techniques, such as remote monitoring and telemedicine, for use in space can have direct applications in remote or underserved areas on Earth.
  3. Immune system function: The altered immune response observed in astronauts during space missions provides valuable information on how the immune system functions in extreme environments. This research contributes to our understanding of immune system dysfunctions and helps develop new approaches for disease prevention and treatment, including vaccines and immunotherapies.
  4. Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine: Conducting research on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine in space can yield unique insights into cell growth, differentiation, and tissue development. The microgravity environment allows for the creation of three-dimensional tissue models that closely resemble human tissue structure and function. These advances can be applied to tissue engineering techniques on Earth, such as creating artificial organs or generating functional tissues for transplantation.
  5. Environmental sustainability and technology: Research in space can lead to advancements in environmental sustainability and technology that benefit life on Earth. For example, studies on closed-loop life support systems and efficient resource utilization in space can inspire innovations in water and energy conservation, waste management, and sustainable agriculture on Earth.
These are just a few examples of how scientific research in space can have direct applications and improvements for life on Earth. The unique conditions and insights gained from space research can drive innovation across various fields and contribute to addressing global health challenges and enhancing our overall quality of life.

In your opinion, why do some trivialities spread so quickly through social media, while scientific research that serves society does not? Have we reached the era of trivia?
Relevant answer
Answer
One reason is that social media algorithms are designed to promote engagement and increase user interaction, which often involves promoting content that invokes emotions such as outrage, humor, or enthusiasm. This can lead to the spread of trivial content as it is often more shareable and easily digestible than complex scientific research. Many users of social media are looking for immediate gratification and entertainment, and are less likely to engage with content that requires a significant time investment or intellectual effort to understand. Scientific research, on the other hand, often involves complex concepts that may not be accessible or immediately relevant to many users. This does not necessarily mean we have reached the era of trivia entirely, as there are still ways that scientific research can be made more accessible and delivered via new channels of communication like podcasts, vlogs, and different modalities. Scientists should aim to produce content that has educational value and that can be easily shared across social media by working towards designing content that is easily digestible and interactive to enable society to better engage with complex scientific research.

I am searching for a topic related to business as academic research. Can you guys please suggest how I can search for a topic for my academic research?
Relevant answer
Answer
It is important you first delineate the operational areas of business, viz; production, marketing, human capital, finance, and all the proximate or ancillary areas. Attempt to itemize trending or conventional issues in these specialized areas and articulate problems that need research introspection. Identify the critical dependent and independent variables that will be aligned to explore the research. Prepare a research proposal and proceed.
Similarly, you may have to visit the library to peruse existing contents that may stimulate your interest in any of the afore mentioned operational areas. Identify research gaps and structure topics to scientifically investigate and explore in filling the gaps.

Dear academicians and researchers
We recently wrote a narrative review paper on ChatGPT and Academic Research: A Review and Recommendations Based on Practical Examples”. Our findings were
  1. Initial Idea Generation: ChatGPT is an effective tool for idea generation, brainstorming, and outlining research topics.
  2. Introduction: The authors found that ChatGPT can generate an introduction without a formal problem statement and research gap. Besides, the introduction part is entirely hypothetical, without any references.
  3. Literature Review: ChatGPT can summarise and compile the literature into a literature review without emphasizing synthesizing and coherence. ChatGPT cannot develop a story based on existing literature. Second, if a researcher instructs ChatGPT to compose a literature review, it generates fictitious and hypothetical in-text citations and references.
We have also proposed some recommendations for academic researchers based on our findings.
Recommendations are attached here.
However, what is your own experience regarding this issue?

I have a scientific research project that will use a design science approach. I have not yet had any practice in design science research methods. I would therefore welcome your advice, either on names of methods, or on books/guides that could be useful to me. This research would be done within the framework of a doctoral study (laboratory not yet identified, I am working on a presentation note for the research project).
My research topic will be the design of a generic diagnostic method based on a common base of issues faced by diagnosticians in very different socio-economic sectors (medicine, employment, education, engineering, etc.). The objective of this work will be to help method designers and practitioners to solve diagnostic problems by improving methods through a cross-fertilisation of practices or research work from various fields. The result will be the design of one or more artefacts that can help a wide variety of actors to innovate in the design of their diagnostic methods or ways of supporting learning (consultancies, in-house consultancies, various schools such as business, nursing, engineering, etc.). The artefacts created will be tools to support reasoning. Although they could lead to the creation of digital tools, this is not the primary objective.
In view of my question of method recommendation in design sciences and my background, I am interested in your advice and clarifying questions. I am of course also interested in getting in touch with people with advanced practice in design science research methods (and open to proposals for collaboration around my topic).

Hi Steve
For me, Design Science is more like a methodology. It's a process. If you lost the step necessary to build your artifact, you will restart the process until you have a reliable artifact to evaluate.
I recommend you first read and understand the method which is used in IS research. You can read these papers:
1. A Design Science research methodology for information systems research, Peffers et al., 2007
2. Bridging practice and theory: A design science approach, Holmstrom and Ketokivi, 2009
3. A Three cycle view of design science research, Hevner,2007
You can find good books on Google Book (Sorry, I just forgot the titles)
Then, for your research, I recommend you to read this article. I think you can apply the proposed process (p.7) to your work. Here, the paper:

Dear flow cytometry lovers and users,
I am a Fortessa (BD) user since 2010. Now, as a Scientific Researcher at Instituto Adolfo Lutz, we get a grant to buy a flow cytometer. We chose the Cytoflex S (Beckman) and now we are in a doubt. Sellers told us that FACs Melody has the same capacity to analyze cells than an analyzer. At the moment we are just conducting projects in flow cytometry immunophenotyping field. We do not think about sorting cells until now. What do you think about? In your experiences, has a sorter the same capacity as an analyzer flow cytometer to analyze cells (13 colors) ?

I think, innovative research mechanisms are new tools for research—for example, the Internet. A long time ago, researchers went to other countries to study. Today we can read and learn the world's best scientists' work on the Internet. If the research's essence is new knowledge, then you need to learn your area perfectly, so as not to reinvent the wheel. Without the Internet, it is impossible.

No doubt plagiarism is a serious problem in academics especially in scientific research. In order to enhance the quality of education it is very necessary to curb plagiarism. But I would like to know why is it necessary to add literature review in Plag check. Literature review itself is stating other people's work. When we are summarizing the work we use their terminology! we will be citing them. Mostly we paraphrase their result and write... which is again one form of the plagiarism. Can we not remove literature review from plag check?
Relevant answer
Answer
Agreed! It is time consuming but
Literature review is an essential step to ensure that the research is based on reliable and current information, and to avoid plagiarism while as peer review is an important aspect of academic publishing, it is not a substitute for conducting a thorough literature review. Peer review typically involves assessing the quality of the research methodology and the validity of the conclusions drawn from the data, but it does not guarantee that the literature review is complete and accurate. We as a researcher and academician can use reference management software to make the process more efficient, and academic journals have guidelines in place to ensure proper citation and literature review practices.

Almost 5 bad years (including Covid and a war) have past since I raised a question whether the gap between academic research and industry is widening. To my opinion the process continued in the meantime and the gap became rather a deep abyss at least here in Europe and in research on homogeneous catalysis. In reality, academy is still sponsored by industry in most of the countries but only at state level. Nowadays, it is hard to find direct industrial projects given to academic groups. What is even more evident that industry is seemingly not sponsoring academic scientific events and industrials are also completely absent from such meetings contrary to the 90's, for example. Furthermore, industrial findings and patents are generally neglected in recent academic research. It came so far that academic journals sponsor academic meetings and partly also the publications. Thus, it seems like research is sponsored, which ends up in itself. Also the funding, which comes from the state is controlled by the academy and publications are accepted mainly from these grants.
The ever increasing pressure for publications in academic groups only worsens the situation resulting in massal diversion from the reality, i.e. from the really important industrial and current research challenges. No wonder then that industrials are absent from recent scientific meetings.
One of the primary goal of academia to provide industry with researchers, who are capable of doing their own research and outfindings. Why to exclude them from science? For example, by creating academic degrees and other arguments for levels and titles, etc. why industrials are not qualified for this? Why not to have a healthy balance in this, like in the 90's or before to see the light at the end of the tunnel?
Relevant answer
Answer
Dear Michael,
I agree with you that there is a lot of research being done in industry. Part of the problem that academic researchers are not quite aware on what. In addition, I am not so sure that industrial research is still considered scientific by academic terms. You are also right that this might depend on the field of chemistry and the region of the world. My field is homogeneous catalysis and I am residing in Europe. So I must restrict my observations to this. Yet I can still clearly see that the cooperation between academy and industry continuously worsening here back from the 60's. As I wrote earlier a visible proof for this that industrials are no longer attending academic meetings and industrial research is not cited in academic works. To my opinion it is not a good direction when instead of partial but direct sponsorship from industry only academic publishers and eventually the state sponsors academic meetings, projects and publications.

How to extract DOI from scientific research?
Relevant answer
Answer
Please follow the link below.
Follow the instructions provided in the link above to search for a DOI using the article title and author's last name. If this method doesn't yield a DOI, don't assume that a DOI doesn't exist. Follow up with the next two options provided in the link.
Please note, that some articles won't have a DOI. The International DOI Foundation was created in 1998 but not all publishers immediately started assigning DOIs. So unless a publisher has retrospectively assigned DOIs to articles, articles published prior to 1998 are less likely to have DOIs.
So, if you have tried all the ways provided in the link which I have mentioned above, but you still cannot find the DOI, it may be that your article does not have one.
Best.

Some scientific journals require high light for research
Relevant answer
Answer
Some scientific journals may require us as an author to provide a summary of the key findings or highlight important aspects of our research in the manuscript. This may be in the form of a section called "Highlights" or "Key Points" that follows the abstract. Consider including the highlights or key points in our manuscript outline from the beginning of our writing process, as this can help us stay focused on the most important aspects of our research as we write. Finally, we should take the time to revise and refine our highlights or key points, as they can play an important role in attracting readers to our paper.
